Food control organization inspects areas

SRINAGAR: A team of Food Safety Officer of Drugs and Food Control Organisation headed by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Srinagar, Hilal Ahmad Mir inspected Qamarwari, Parimpora and Noor Bagh areas of Srinagar.
During inspection some of the non-locals were found manufacturing bakery and confectionery items in total unhygienic conditions. They were directed to stop their operations forthwith.
One sweets and confectionery units run by trade name Aroma Sweets at Noor Bagh was found operating in total insanitary conditions, dirt, dust and flies were everywhere in the units.
A huge quantity of sweets was seized from the unit and the manufacturing unit was scaled and samples were sent for analysis. One more bakery manufacturing unit, English Bakery at Noor Bagh operating in pathetic conditions was also sealed and accordingly samples were sent for analysis.
Moreover some of the food business operators were found storing flood affected food articles of spices, skimmed milk, tea, flour, pluses amounting around Rs. 5 lakh, which was destroyed on spot. Team also destroyed huge quantity of rotten vegetables and fruits.
People of these areas have appreciated the move of department and requested for continuance of such drives in future also.
