‘Focus on strengthening colleges infrastructure’

SRINAGAR: Minister for Education, Naeem Akthar on Wednesday said the government intends to strengthen existing Degree Colleges with all necessary infrastructure, rather than going for further expansion. Responding to a question of Jugal Kishore Sharma in the Legislative Council, the minister said State Government will first equip the existing colleges with infrastructure facilities like buildings, laboratories, libraries etc besides, teaching/ non teaching faculty.
Akhtar informed that Higher Education Department has 95 Degree Colleges, out of which 58 are functioning in their own buildings and remaining 37 are functioning in makeshift arrangements.
He further said that there is no proposal presently under the consideration of the government to establish new Degree College at Katra, Pouni, Mongari and Panchari.
