Flash floods claim 3 lives; emergency measures initiated

Jammu: A 7-year-old boy was among three persons killed in flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.
The boy identified as Khateeb Ahmed was washed away in the Gundi area of Ramban district when he was on his way to school on Wednesday, they said. His body was recovered later, police said.
In another incident, Ashraf Bi was washed away in Poonch district, while Bahadur Singh (50) died on Tuesday night after his house collapsed due to heavy rains in Kathua district, they said.
The flash floods also caused damage to a bridge on cross-LoC road in Chakan-Da-Bagh area of Poonch district, a police officer said.
Meanwhile, in view of incessant rains, Reasi administration has set up various control rooms to keep tab on water level in local streams and timely action in case of any eventuality.
The control rooms have been established in Katra, Pouni, Bomag, Thakrakote, Thuroo, Arnas, Mahore and Chasana to provide help to people in the event of any eventuality.

All the Tehsildars have also set up control rooms to provide help to the people.
The DC Reasi has also instructed PDD, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, PHE and other departments to keep their men and machinery on high alert to meet any odd situation. He asked the officers to keep their phones on and remain alert.
