JAMMU: The state-of-the-art indoor swimming pool on the ground floor of KC Sports Club was thrown open to public in April this year. Since then, a large number of children have learned swimming under the guidance of trained and experienced coaches and acquired a fairly good level of skills in it.
To encourage the young swimmers to raise their standard of performance at competitive level, a swimming competition was organised in the club recently in which many young swimmers took part with great enthusiasm. To accommodate as many swimmers as possible, heats were conducted to select the best swimmers on time basis. Finally, the best of them vied with each other for the position of the winner. In the final event conducted on free style of swimming, Uttkarsh Khajuria grabbed the first position in a nearly photo finish situation and was declared the champion of this maiden individual swimming contest.
The club intends to organise similar swimming contests in the future under different age categories for boys and girls separately. The gifted swimmers identified through these competitions would form a swimming team to represent KC Sports Club in various swimming competitions scheduled to be held this summer in Jammu or elsewhere in the State of J and K.
