First FIRs under BNS registered in J&K

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday registered the first FIR’s under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) in Anantnag, Srinagar, Baramulla, Kulgam and Police District Sopore.
This historic event marks the beginning of a new era in the justice delivery system within the Kashmir Zone.
FIR No. 143/2024, was registered under Section 125(a) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 at Police Station Bijbehara being the first FIR registered in Kashmir Zone. Similarly, in Srinagar district, first case vide FIR No. 22/2024 under sections 303 BNS and 135 (1) Electricity Act was registered at Police Station Chanapora.
Baramulla Police has also registered the first case under FIR No. 93/2024, filed under sections 303(2) and 329(3) under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Kreeri. In Police District Sopore, the first case vide FIR No. 25/2024 under Section 223, 303 ii and 326A of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 has been registered at Police Station Panzla. Kulgam Police also registered the first case vide FIR No 47/2024 under sections 74, 115(2) BNS (Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita) at Police Station Yaripora.
This sets a vital precedent for the implementation of the new criminal law framework and underscores the swift and decisive action taken by the Police to uphold the law and ensure justice for all. This development is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the District Police and the judiciary in harmonizing the legal framework, enhancing the efficacy of the justice system, and strengthening the rule of law in the district.
The historic nature of this event signifies the entry of J&K Police into a new era which shall pave the way for a more efficient and robust justice delivery mechanism.

First FIRs registered in five districts of Jammu Province

Jammu: In a significant development, the first FIRs under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) have been successfully registered at the Model Police Stations in Doda & Reasi districts besides Udhampur, Ramban and Jammu districts in Jammu division also.
The case FIR 170/2024, was registered at the Police Station Doda, which falls under the jurisdiction of District Police Headquarters Doda. The accident case has been registered under sections 281 and 125(a) BNS of the new law, marking a notable milestone in the region’s legal enforcement framework.
The first FIR has been registered at Police Station Pouni, Reasi. An accident case has been registered at Police Station Pouni under FIR No. 34/2024 U/S 281, 125(A) BNS (Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita), 2023, and an investigation has been initiated.
The assault case FIR 310/2024 U/S 115(2), 125,351 (3), 352 BNS is the first FIR registered in Police Station Udhampur under new criminal Law.
Moreover, a case has been registered at Police Station Bishnah under FIR No. 85/24, invoking Sections 109/115/3 BNS and 4/25 A Act. In a landmark development, Bishnah Police Station in Jammu District has registered the very first FIR under the recently enacted Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), marking a significant evolution in the region’s legal framework.
Meanwhile, the first FIR 109/2024, has been registered under Section 125(a) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Banihal of District Ramban It is pertinent to mention that, from now on, all FIRs will be filed under the provisions of BNS (Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita) 2023. However, cases registered before July 01 will continue to be tried under IPC (Indian Penal Code), Cr.PC (Criminal Procedure Code), and Indian Evidence Act until their final disposal.
