First ever dog show in Jammu

JAMMU: The canine lovers of Jammu gave an ever whelming response to the first to the first ever dog show organized in Jammu at the behest of the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu and his wife Arunima Sinha during the Red Cross Mela.
The show was organized and conducted by two young dog lovers of Jammu Suyash Raj and Bhargavie Raj. There were separate entries for pedigree and indigenous breed commonly called as the street dogs who have been adopted by a friendly neighbor or an NGO.
Tuffy ‘the tough boy’ a one year old Golden Retriever belonging to Shivam won the first prize. Milo a Labrador belonging to Dr. Sandhya Bhardwaj won the silver medal and Bawa another Golden Retriever belonging to Raman Gupta won the bronze medal.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Shantmanu was the Chief Guest and Prof. Renu Nanda was the Guest of Honour.
In the indigenous category Saima and Honey both belonging to Hemu Karki won the gold and bronze respectively and Madonna belonging to Rumpy Madam won the silver medal. Snoopy, a pug belonging to Ankush Soni won gold in the small dog category. Other prize winners in the best maintained dogs were Zaffer-a-Rottweiler, Sultan a French mastiff, Mike a Doberman, Muffin, A Lahsa Apso and Lily a Beagle.
The show was judged by Dr. Rajindra Khajuria a veterinary doctor and a KAS officer and Dr. Vinay Yadav from BSF. The judges shared valuable tips on dog care and how to prevent rabies and urged the audience to be sensitive toward dogs. Dog owners should first be dog lovers they urged.
The consolation prize was sponsored by Survidha Pet Clinic, Shastri Nagar, Jammu.
