JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir POJK Refugee Front 1947, 1965 and 1971 expressed resentment over the financial settlement packages recommended by the State Cabinet on 16th October, 2014.
The activists of POJK Refugee Front led by Rashpal Chib assembled at Press Club and staged protest amidst anti-government slogans for giving step motherly treatment to the refugees.
Talking to reporters, Front President said that in the financial package recommended by the State Cabinet, the refugees will be entitled to Rs. 25 lakh for land deficiency but there is no mention of compensation against loss of homes and hearths, moveable and immovable property left behind and number of family members killed.
Chib mentioned that the Wadhwa Committee constituted by the State Government in 2007 has recommended Rs. 16 lakh for each family uprooted from POJK and Chhamb Area for their properties which were left behind.
Chib said, “There is no mention of those families who were paid Rs. 3500 as loan and a sum of Rs. 1000 was deducted from the above amount as interest. They deserve full compensation as recommended by the State Cabinet for their final settlement.”
Chib further mentioned “The Urban Refugees were provided seven Marla plots and Rs. 3500 as their final settlement package. They were not provided any assistance for carrying out their business. Hence, they must be considered for additional amount of assistance for starting their business.”
“The State Cabinet recommended five per cent reservation in professional colleges in other States of India but no reservation quota in the State professional colleges”, said Chib. He demanded reservation in the State professional institutions as well as in the institutions of other States.
The Front threatened to launch agitation if the State Government failed to provide full compensation to the refugees.
