JAMMU: Shaheen Football Club (SFC) won the opening match of Fifth Christmas Soccer Championship, which began here on Monday.
The opening match was played between Young Muneer Srinagar and Shaheen Club, which was won by the latter by five goals to nil (5-0).
For the Shaheen Club side, the first goal was scored by Sahil in 7th minute, second and third goals were scored by Aman in 15th and 25th minutes respectively, Atul scored fourth goal in 34th minute and Rishi Chitri scored fifth goal in 60 minute.
The championship is being organised by Christian Sports Organization in collaboration with J and K Football Association at Parade Ground, here.
Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of State for Youth Services and Sport in the presence of Guests of Honour, Danesh Rana, IGP Jammu and Fr. Kuriakose.
SSP Jammu Dr. Sunil Gupta, Joint Kashmir Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) R.S Jamwal and SSP R.K Bhat were the Special Guests.
Prominent persons present were Vinod Kumar SP City, Ramesh Kotwal SP Headquarter, Vivek Shekhar Dy SP City, Vivek Gupta (ASM) Huawei, Ragav Talwar (TSM) Huawei, S,M Gill, Kuldeep Singh, Hamid Bhandey, Mohan Lal, Ramesh Chander, Asif Gill, Victor Sotra, William Mattoo, Sunny Gill, Bharat Bhushan, Satpal Coach, Yousuf Don and Sardari Lal.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister said that he enjoyed to watch the Santa Clause came with the two opening match teams in front of the ground and the carol songs of Christmas sung by the group of small children.
IGP Jammu Danish Rana also conveyed his best wishes to the participating teams for their best performance in the championship.
Earlier, Fr. Kuriakose Chairman presented welcome address and gave brief report of the championship.
The match was officiated by Rakesh Kumar, Dheeraj Mania, Rocky, Rajinder Singh and Mohinder Kalsi. The Organizing Secretaries of the championship are Asif Gill, David Mattoo and Yousuf Don whereas Rajesh Gill is the Coordinator of the Championship. The proceedings of the opening function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, R.P Singh and Victor Sotra.
