JAMMU: Farmers from various areas of Jammu and Samba Districts on Saturday held protest here against the government and Revenue Department for not providing compensation as per actual cost of land.
Speaking on the occasion, President BJP Kisan Morcha, Rajinder Singh Chib said that the revenue authorities are not ready to pay the compensation as per actual cost of land to the farmers which is being acquired for ‘Ring Road’ from Raya Morh to Mishriwala Akhnoor.
The farmers were demanding that government should pay the compensation four times more than government fixed price for their land or as per actual cost of land to the farmers which is being acquired for ‘Ring Road’ strictly by implementing Government of India Land Acquisition Order for the welfare of public and farmers.
“If some positive steps are not taken for desired compensation at the rate of Rs 20 lakh per Kanal, we would not allow to any agency of the government for the construction of ‘Ring Road’ on their land,” they said.
“If some concrete measure is not taken by the government in this regard, the farmers are forced to choose the path of committing suicide,” they warned.
Others who spoke in the protest include Kulbhushan Khajuria, President, JKAEDA, Davinder Sharma, President Progressive Farmers Union, Tarsem Lal Sharma and Bal Krishan.
