JAMMU: Accusing police inaction, the family members of the girl who was killed in yesterday’s tragic road accident along with her relatives and locals blocked ever busy Talab Tillo-Canal Road here on Tuesday.
Janvi Gupta, 16, was hit by a rashly driven Mini Bus near Poonch House yesterday. The family members said that the police was not cooperating with them.
The police tried to pacify the protesters but they were reluctant to lift the blockade. However, after long deliberations by police officials the protestors lifted the Dharna paving way to clear the traffic jam.
Leaders of various political parties including National Conference and Lok Jan Shakti Party also sat on Dharna in support of victim’s family members and raised slogans against police and mini bus operators.
The protestors alleged that due to nexus between mini bus operators and traffic cops, there is no check on unruly public transport operators.
Seeking action against erring drivers, the protestors appealed to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene and ensure adequate steps to curb such tragic mishaps.
