JAMMU: Fahad Mir Foundation on Friday organised a massive plantation drive and created a record by planting 10,000 saplings in collaboration with Shivalik Brigade of Tiger Division of Indian Army at Sunjawan Military Station.
The plantation drive was supported by J&K Forest Department which has provided ornamental, decorative and fruit bearing plants to Fahad Mir Foundation while Army provided all logistic support in addition to land for plantation. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Department A.K Singh was the Chief Guest while Ruchi Chouhan Khan Founder of Fahad Mir Foundation was Guest of Honour. Commander Shivalik Brigade said that Shivalik Brigade Sunjawan is a small green island with 30,000 trees and this useful plantation drive will not only add a good number of trees but will also ensure the sustenance of all the trees as army is capable of taking care of saplings.
Singh in his address thanked Ruchi Chouhan for her initiative for organising this plantation drive. He also extended his thanks to the Commander of Shivalik Brigade for providing unconditional support for the purpose.
Ruchi Chouhan requested the government authorities to earmark forest land and green patches across the state to cover the same with plants. She said that this nobel cause wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Army and J&K Forest Department. She thanked Colonel Madan, DFO Hitashi and A.K Singh for showing zeal and zest to carry out the drive.
She said that this effort by Fahad Mir Foundation was a tribute to her son Fahad Mir who expired in a tragic road accident on 24th December 2014.
