Expression of grief over brutal killing of tourists in Pahalgam, concern regarding its adverse impact on livelihood of local people
Dear Editor,
We write to you with deep anguish and concern to express our heartfelt sorrow over a tragic and horrifying incident that has recently shaken the conscience of our nation.
The merciless killing of over 26 innocent tourists in Pahalgam, a place otherwise known for its serene beauty and warm hospitality, is an unspeakable act of brutality. The inhumanity of such violence defies all sense of logic and compassion.
Kashmir, often referred to as ‘Paradise on Earth’, has long been a symbol of nature’s grandeur and spiritual solace. However, acts like these cast a long, dark shadow on its reputation and threaten the very essence of its identity. This is not merely a personal tragedy for the families affected but a collective loss for the region’s tourism industry, which is the backbone of the local economy.
Pahalgam has been a cherished destination for both domestic and international tourists. Incidents like these breed fear and mistrust, leading to a significant decline in tourist inflow and undermining the years of efforts made to revive Kashmir’s tourism sector.
Through your esteemed newspaper, we urge the authorities to take swift and exemplary action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime. We also request the government to strengthen security measures across all tourist destinations to restore confidence among travelers and ensure their safety. Let us not allow the forces of terror to silence the spirit of hospitality that Kashmir stands for.
We hope you will consider publishing this letter in your widely read daily, thereby giving voice to the sentiments of countless citizens who stand in solidarity with the victims and yearn for peace to prevail in the Valley.
