Excise sleuths seize 108 bottles of liquor

JAMMU: Excise Depart-ment on Monday arrested one person and recovered 108 bottles of liquor from his possession.
In order to curb the menace of smuggling of liquor from outside the State, the excise team Kathua under the command of Excise and Taxation Officer, Excise Range Kathua, Sandeep Gupta and Task Force officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur laid a Naka at Lakhanpur where a Swift VDI car bearing registration number JK08C-4726 was intercepted and during checking, 108 bottles of whisky meant for sale in Punjab, were recovered from the driver of vehicle. The driver has been identified as Amit Sharma, son of Shashi Pal Sharma, resident of Marheen Tehsil Hiranagar District Kathua, who was arrested under various sections of J&K Excise Act 1958.
The Excise Department has launched drive against the menace of liquor under the direction of Excise Commissioner, J and K, T. Angchuk and under the active supervision of the Deputy Excise Commissioner Toll Post Lakhanpur, Rajesh Sharma and Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Mohammed Shahid Saleem.
