SAMBA: Excise Commissioner, J and K, Tsering Angchok, who has recently taken over the department, on Tuesday conducted an extensive tour of Samba District and inspected the functioning of distilleries and breweries at Industrial Growth Centre, Samba.
He was accompanied by the Dy. Excise Commissioner Distilleries, Jammu, Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary and Excise and Taxation Officer, Distilleries, Jammu, Idrees Lone. He went round M/s Dewan’s Modern Breweries Pvt. Ltd. Samba and M/s Oakland Bottlers located in IGC Samba and impressed upon the managements to redouble their efforts to enhance production and thereby earn additional revenue for the State.
During his visit, Angchok emphasized that the units should maintain quality and hygiene standards. The excise staff posted at the distilleries was also instructed to be vigilant to prevent any leakages or evasion of Excise Duty.
He looked into all the aspects of different processes involving brewing, fermentation, bottling, packaging and dispatch from the units. He gave a patient hearing to the problems of unit holders. He stressed upon the units holders to maintain the quality of the products and stressed upon them to provide just and humane conditions to the labour working there. He said that the distilleries wing had been generating good revenue for the department and exhorted upon the officers to work strenuously to achieve the desired targets for the current financial year.
While appreciating the efforts of the distillery wing in collecting the highest ever revenue to the tune of Rs. 279 crore, despite hardships faced by the due to natural calamities during the year the Commissioner asserted upon the officers of distillery wing to maintain the same level of zeal to promote further the interest the government revenue, by achieving the revenue targets for the current Financial Year.
It is pertinent to mention here that Angchok had taken over the department as Excise Commissioner, J and K on 19th May. Immediately after assuming the office, he visited Excise Toll Plaza and other minor posts of Excise Department to have first-hand account of the functioning of the department.
