Excise Comm reviews deptt’s revenue growth for June 2016

JAMMU: The Excise Commissioner, J&K T. Angchuk took revenue review meeting of various officers of Excise and Taxation Department here on Friday. The over-all growth scenario of the revenue receipts of the Excise Department for the month of June, 2016 was discussed threadbare viz a viz targets fixed. It was noticed that the revenue realisation of the Department remained exceedingly well during the month of June 2016. The total revenue realised by the Excise Department during June, 2016 has been recorded to the tune of Rs. 113.07 crore against Rs. 98.93 crore realised during the year 2015-16. The Department has recorded a remarkable growth of 14.29 per cent. The total revenue realised by the Toll Post Lakhanpur during the month of June, 2016 has been recorded to the tune of Rs. 50.18 crore against Rs. 43.17 crore and Rs. 145.23 crore upto June, 2016 against Rs. 123.59 crore upto June, 2015. The Toll Post Lakhanpur has recorded a remarkable growth of 17.51 per cent upto June, 2016. The Distilleries’ Wing of the Department has also performed exceedingly well. The total revenue realized by the distilleries wing, during the month of June, 2016 has been recorded to the tune of Rs. 25.90 crore against Rs. 25.68 crore realised during the year 2015-16 and Rs. 71.95 crore upto June, 2016 against Rs. 68.21 crore upto June, 2015. It has recorded a total increase of 5.48 per cent upto June, 2016.
On the front of Eradication and Enforcement activity, the Excise Commissioner appreciated the comprehensive drive launched by the Excise Department in Jammu division to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor, illicit distillation and other violations of the J&K Excise Act, 1958. It was appreciated that more than 14,885 Kgs of Lahan, meant for manufacturing illicit liquor, has also been destroyed in the entire Jammu Division by the Excise sleuths who have conducted surprise raids in various areas. A total of 935 liquor bottles have been seized/destroyed during the month of June 2016 against 245 bottles in the previous year. During the meeting, all the officers of the Excise Department, were exhorted and impressed by the Excise Commissioner, J&K towards day and night strict vigil to improve revenue realisation during the current fiscal and work hard to generate revenue for the State. All the Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers were present in the meeting.
