POONCH: Retired Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach and former Technical Advisor to Indian Hockey teams (men and women), Shanker Basu in Saturday visited Sports Stadium, here.
The veteran hockey coach interacted with the young hockey trainees of Poonch and congratulated each one of them for being lucky on getting the world class playing facility, in the shape of an Astroturf, at their door steps.
“We are lucky enough to get such an opportunity to interact an experienced hockey veteran of the country. Today, he encouraged the members, especially those youngsters, of Sham Lal Hockey Club and trainees of Khelo India Hockey Centre at Sports Stadium, Poonch,” informed hockey coach and Physical Education Lecturer of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Pawan Kumar.
Later, Shanker Basu visited the upcoming Hockey Astroturf facility at BHSS Poonch and interacted with those senior players.
He also remembered the role and contributions of Lt Sham Lal Sharma, former SAI Coach for Poonch in bringing Hockey culture in J&K, especially among girls of district Poonch.
Narjeet Singh (Retd ZPEO and silver medalist), Mukesh Kumar, Navjot Singh (both Hockey Coaches), Kewal Krishan, Sorab Sharma (PEMs) Neeraj Sharma, Harmik Singh (PETs) were among others present.
