JAMMU: Expressing concern over rising population of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in Jammu, Shiv Sena Bala Sahib Thackeray on Thursday asked the administration to evict them immediately.
While talking to media persons, State President Shiv Sena, Dimpy Kohli flanked by Manish Sawhney appealed to people of Jammu especially Hindus to wake up and get united to save the history, culture and identity of Dogras.
Dimpy demanded the departure of the threatening presence of refugees and migrant Rohingyas and Bangladeshis who have made Jammu their temporary home.
Dimpy cited Article 370 of the Indian Constitution as one of the reasons for his party’s opposition to the Rohingyas’ presence in the State. He said as per this Article, allowing any non-Indian to take up residence in the State is a “total violation of the constitution” because the document of accession does not permit foreigners, whether Rohingyas, Muslims from Myanmar or West Pakistan Refugees, to live in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dimpy said that this is a conspiracy to reduce Dogra population to minority in their bastion Jammu by engineering demographic changes. He further said that Shiv Sena under the leadership of Party’s President, Uddhav Thackery strongly opposed the illegal resettlement of refugees in Jammu after fleeing from their native countries. He also said that these refugees are a security threat to India particularly Jammu and that intelligence agencies have termed them a “ticking time bomb”.
Dimpy said that this burning issue has also come up in political debates also in the recent past. Late last month, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti provided a written response to BJP MLA’s questions informing that there are 5,743 Burmese (Rohingyas) staying in the State.
Dimpy said that as per the reports 17 FIRs have been registered against 38 Rohingyas for various offences including those related to illegal border crossing.
Dimpy said that we think that the State Government and Border Security Forces are at fault for allowing the Rohingya population to grow over the past ten or more years. Government places Rohingya refugees in Jammu, not in Kashmir because Jammu has a more “mixed culture” which allows outsiders to enjoy the status of nationals that is not possible in Kashmir. He also made an apprehension that the Rohingya Muslim settlements are part of the “Anglo-American conspiracy to create a crisis in Jammu and Kashmir.”
He said that these Rohingyas are known to be of a criminal background and have violently attacked Buddhist communities in their native Myanmar.
Dimpy appealed to the district administration Jammu to throw out these anti-social Rohingyas from Jammu to save Jammu.
Rakesh Gupta, Raj Singh, Narinder Chuni, Vikas Patel, Radhe Radhe Maharaj, Ramesh Gupta and Vijay Malayal were also present.
