Reviews security arrangements for 8th phase of elections

JAMMU: Reviewing the security arrangements put in place by different security agencies for the 8th phase of District Development Council (DDC) and by-elections for Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies (ULB), the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh stressed for strict and elaborate security arrangements around the polling booths for peaceful conduct of final phase of polling. Dilbag Singh reviewed the security situation in Kupwara, Handwara and Baramulla frontier districts.
The DGP stressed upon the officers to ensure high alertness, especially in the border areas to check any infiltration attempt. He said that subversive elements are attempting to create disturbance here and stressed upon the officers to reaming extra vigilant and alert. He appreciated officers and officials of JK Police and other security forces for tireless efforts during the past seven phases that ensured incident-free elections, so far.
Accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of North Kashmir, Sulaiman Chowdary, the DGP first visited Kupwara and then to Handwara and in the afternoon he visited Baramulla. The DGP chaired joint review meetings at these district headquarters.
During the meetings, the DGP sought detailed briefing from the police officers and other security agencies with regard to security and deployment of personnel in their respective jurisdictions. He directed to conduct checking to identify suspicious movement in their respective jurisdictions.
“Safety and security of people is our prime responsibility and every effort of the terror groups to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of JK would be neutralized firmly,” he said and stressed upon the officers to maintain close coordination within their ranks and strengthen relations with the people to achieve better results.
He said that because of the hard work put in by all not only a number of commanders were neutralized but various terror modules were also busted.
He said that with the help of parents a number of youth left the path of terrorism and joined back to their families.
The DGP was apprised by the SSP Kupwara Shriram Ambarkar, SSP Baramulla, Abdul Qayoom and SP Handwara Dr. G.V Chakravarthy and officers from other security forces about the deployment of forces and preventive measures put in place to ensure peaceful polling in all the constituencies going for polls in final phase. The meeting at Handwara was attended by Brigade Commander 07 sector Brig. M.S Rathore, CO 15 RR Col Abishek, CO 21 RR Col Gagandeep Singh, CO CRPF 92 BN. Uday Devan Shue, SP Handwara Dr. G.V Chakravarthy, ASP Handwara Mashkoor Ahmad and other gazzetted officers, and in Kupwara the meeting was attended by SSP Kupwara Shriram Ambarkar, CO ITBP Jaspal Singh, CO Adhoc K4 BSF, K.S Salathia, CO 98 BN CRPF, Ashok Kumar, CO 162 BN CRPF, Rajinder Singh, Dy.Co K2 BSF Parveen Rana, DyCO IR 4th Bn, Bharat Bhusan, Addl. SP Kupwara Ifroz Ahmad, and other senior officers. In Baramulla the meeting was attended by DIG NKOR CRPF Anish Sirohi, DIG BSF Baramulla Jitender Sindhu, SSP Baramulla Abdul Qayoom, CO IR 13Th Bn Aijaz Ahmad, CO 53 Bn CRPF Vinnay Kumar Tiwari and DySP DAR Baramulla Irshad Ahmad.
