JAMMU: KC Paryavaran Sadan (Environment Club) organized ‘Say No to Plastic’ Campaign at Rajinder Park on Canal Road today to increase public understanding and perception of the menace of plastic pollution and its available solutions, thereby empowering people and organizations to take action.
The main aim of the campaign was to engage and educate local community about dangers posed by plastic waste.
Under the programme ‘Act today, change tomorrow’, KC Public School (KCPS) students stand committed to their mission of salvaging planet earth and its delicate environment from the threat of pollution.
The objective of the campaign was also to make people aware of handling waste responsibly and to take steps towards a cleaner environment.
Holding placards and banners made on cloth and not on paper, they propagated a plastic-free environment.
Aakarsh Roshan Sharma, President of KCPS Environment Club read out a collective pledge to choose only environmentally friendly products to reduce the risk of plastics pollution of our historic Ranbir Canal.
Prior to the campaign, the key position holders of KC Paryavaran Sadan had met the Secretary of JMC Atul Gupta and told him how passionate they are about environmentalism which is one of the major principles of Round Square educational ideology.
They also apprised him of the key leadership roles the students have undertaken in the implementation of numerous sustainable projects within the school such as drip irrigation, making eco bricks and compositing.
JMC Secretary Atul Gupta, Chairman of Swachh Bharat Committee Hardeep Singh Mankotia, Ward Corporator Pramod Kapahi and dignitaries from JMC IEC Wing including Rajat Gupta, Dheeraj Singh Manhas, Anuj Gandotra, Ankush Sharma, Bobel Chadgal and Sahil Kumar were also present.
Atul Gupta and Mankotia congratulated the management and Principal of KCPS for motivating their students to dedicate themselves to a cause of universal concern.
10 dustbins were also distributed by JMC with the aim to segregate solid waste.
JMC also promoted initiative of ‘BYE – BYE Plastic’, requesting local citizens to give 2kg of plastic waste and get in return a cotton or jute bag.
Teachers in-charge of the school Environment Club Kamaljeet Kaur, Surabhi Sharma, Sakshi Saini and RS Rep Sonia Thakur helped participating students in getting the area at Rajinder Park cleaned. The vote of thanks presented by Secretary of the Club, Mrinmay Mehta.
