Once in 1914 the total power generation from Solar plant in the country was 6,000 MW. Today after 10 years it has mounted up to 85,000 MW! At present the country’s almost 70% of total electricity need is fulfilled through fossil fuel (coal and others). While the target is set to see sources of renewal energy being increased to have achieved 57% share of the total installed power generation capacity by 2027 , downsizing that of the fossil fuel thereof. If we split the data into respective sources of renewal energy components the projected figures by the said year 2027 would get be around 52,446 megawatt from large hydropower; 185, 566 MW , solar; 72, 895 MW, wind; 5,200 MW ,small hydro-units ; 13,000 MW, biomass . Whereas that from coal the final figure after projected increment would get to be 235,133 MW ; from gas and nuclear being 24,824 and 13,080 MW respectively.
In view of increasing power consumption with resulted pollution thereof in the recent time, the country witnessed unprecedented hike in the construction of renewal energy power plants all around . So much so that lying on the highest point in the world that is 17,000 feet above the sea-level in such Ladakh the solar plant with 5,000 MW capacity is coming up. Experts claim that this would save country from projected emission of 12,750 ton carbon . A solar-wind power plant with the capacity of 30,000 MW to be built on the dessert of Kachchh of Gujarat with the size as vast as Singapore is another achievement of its kind that could be a showcase to the world from India.
Government is thus moving ahead with its goal . It is not all, however ! This alone could turn out to be insufficient without public active participation , if we want the climate to be clean with the fulfillment of our energy need. Of course people are also doing that. So much so that even they who bear the responsibility of bringing into execution on the ground what government plans. On the Bhopal-Indore road of state of MP lies a Sehore town, which is the headquarter of the district too. In order to inspire the common people for the ‘Plantation-drive ‘ on the occasion of World Environment Day the Collector of the district , Praveen Singh , initiated the drive first from his own residence, from his own family ! Keeping on forefront his son , Ranvijay, and daughter, Samruddhi, had the saplings of mangoes, blackberry and jackfruit transplanted in the government residential campus.
Thereafter, he called upon the citizens that everybody should plant at least one tree. Mahavir Swami says – ‘Earth, water and air are very life-form , therefore be one with them also .’- Jainagam. Collector , Praveen Singh, emulated the message of Mahavir Swamy with his entire family in true sense.
