JAMMU: J and K Government Employees, Casual Labours, Workers and Pensioners United Platform on Thursday
sought amendment in SRO 520.
Hundreds of employees under the banner of J and K Government Employees, Casual Labours, Workers and Pensioners United Platform assembled in front of MAM Stadium and staged protest against the government seeking immediate settlement of burning demands of State working class which are pending since long.
Briefing media persons, Mohammed Gafoor Dar, Convener of United Platform said that the State Coalition Government has miserably failed to uphold the commitment made with the 61,000 casual labourers of all the departments despite assurances on the floor of the House but it is very unfortunate that the government has partially considered the demand converting casual labourers as contractual workers under SRO 520 without treating them at par with the State Government employees and workers without DA, HRA, medical allowance and no promotions.
The United Platform declared the decision of the government as partial achievement of workers through constant struggle during the last so many years, he said. In such a situation, when the prices of essential commodities are touching the sky and Seventh Pay Commission recommendations have been implemented for the Central Government employees the same have also become due to the State Government employees / public sector workers and pensioners. The United Platform demanded that the government should implement the pay commission without further delay. The left over casual labourers who will do qualify the regularisation scheme, their monthly wages be drawn from the same head regularly, he sought.
“Enhancement of honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers at par with the adjoining states of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi and finalisation of seniority list of Anganwadi workers and helpers and their promotions accordingly should be implemented,” he demanded.
Dar urged the State Coalition Government to consider the aforesaid demands on priority otherwise the United Platform will be compelled to intensify the agitation.
