JAMMU: Senior Citizens Day was celebrated with immense enthusiasm at Golden’s Day Care & Recreation Centre for Senior Citizens, Lower Roop Nagar, Jammu. The event was marked by vibrant cultural performances, health awareness sessions, and interactive activities aimed at promoting the dignity, well-being, and active participation of senior citizens in community life.

The occasion was graced by Sham Lal Sharma, MLA, Jammu North Constituency, as the Chief Guest. He lauded the efforts of Golden’s Day Care Centre in creating a respectful and engaging space for the elderly and reiterated his full support for the centre’s ongoing and future initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, Sham Lal emphasized that senior citizens are the cultural backbone of society.
“Elders must consider themselves as role models. Your experiences, wisdom, and values are essential for shaping the next generation,” he said.
He called upon the elderly to guide youth towards a value-based life and to actively discourage them from falling prey to social evils such as drug abuse.
Highlighting the importance of intergenerational dialogue, he stressed that daily interaction between the youth and elderly through cultural exchanges and family activities can bridge the generation gap and strengthen societal values.
He also encouraged senior citizens to remain active in community life, stating that their continued participation adds invaluable wisdom and balance to society.
“Your blessings and guidance are a moral compass not only for your families but for the entire community,” he added.
Several senior members were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to society. The management of Golden’s Day Care Centre expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the participants and reaffirmed their commitment to the welfare and happiness of elders. “This day is a tribute to our elders who carry the torch of tradition and wisdom,” said a representative of the centre.
Prominent personalities including Raj Kumar Kohli, Tilak Raj Sharma, and Ramesh Magotra also addressed the event and shared their thoughts.
Sham further assured support for developmental initiatives at the Centre, including installation of PP tiles, ESCL lights, footpath and parking development, and laying of paver tiles, promising coordination with JMC and DDC Jammu.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the day as a memorable tribute to the wisdom and vitality of senior citizens.
