Educational institutions celebrate National Mathematics Day

JAMMU: Twenty-second December had been declared as the National Mathematics Day in India as the day marks the birthday of the great mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. To mark the day various educational institutions on Monday organized programme.
Department of Mathematics of Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar, under the aegis of Science Club in collaboration with J and K Council for Science and Technology, DST Jammu celebrated National Mathematics Day.
Head Department of Mathematics, Central University of Jammu, Prof. S.D Sharma was the Resource Person whereas Principal of the host College, Dr. Kiran Bakshi was the Chief Guest.
Welcoming the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, Dr. Anupama Gupta highlighted the importance of the day.
Prof. S.D Sharma spoke on ‘Fascinating World of Cardinal Numbers’. Beginning from the essences and beauty of mathematics, he moved on to the importance of Cardinal Number in understanding basic mathematics.
Dr. Bakshi exhorted students to take benefit of his lecture and develop deep understanding of this subject which will develop their further interest for pursuing higher studies.
Among teachers, Sunita Razdan, District Officer DST was also present. Prof. Suchitra Saproo presented vote of thanks.
(WP) Government Degree College (GDC) Budhal celebrated the Day by organiing a seminar on mathematics which was attended by students both from schools and college, staff members and prominent persons of the area.
Principal of the College, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Raina presided over the function and delivered a power point presentation on Life and Contribution of Ramanujan.
Mr. Abdul Qayoom Malik ( former Principal) was the Chief Guest on the occasion. A symposium on ‘Importance of Mathematics’ was also organised. In school category Attiya Rehman bagged first position whereas second and third positions were bagged by Tasveer Akhter and Tayba Shawl.
In the college category, Zahid Farooq stood first and Layaqat Ali got second position whereas Waseem Shabnam and Waheed Khan jointly shared the third positions.
Earlier the function started with recitation of few verses of the Holy Quran by Tehamina Kouser and welcome address by Dr. Mohd Sajar.
Prof. Altaf Ahmed, Prof. Priksha Raina and Abdul Qayoom acted as jury members. Prof Amendeep Jagral compiled the result. Prof. Yasir Butt (HOD Mathematics) conducted the proceedings of the programme and Prof. Manzoor Ali presented formal vote of thanks.
Dr Mohd Ramzan, Prof. Mohd Aslam, Muddasir Ahamad Dar, Prof. Imtyaz Hussian Shah,Prof Amandeep Jangral, Maneer Mugal, Arshad Baba also spoke during the seminar.
Other prominent present in the programme were Abdul Latief, Mohd Iqbal Malik, Angraz Singh and Prof. Ramneek Kour. Azhar Malik helped the power point presentations.
