Educational institutions celebrate National Mathematics Day

JAMMU: Twenty-second December had been declared as the National Mathematics Day in India as the day marks the birthday of the great mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. To mark the day various educational institutions on Tuesday organized programme.
With an aim to bring awareness on the contributions made by the renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, SCERT J&K, Divisional office Jammu celebrated National Mathematics Day.
National Mathematics Day was celebrated under the directions of Prof. Veena Pandita, Director SCERT J&K and overall supervision of Joint Director, H.R Pakhroo, wherein members on faculty paid tributes to the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Earlier, Surinder Kumar, Field Advisor (Mathematics), SCERT Jammu, J&K highlighted and discussed about life, struggles and achievements of Ramanujan as the day emphasizes the necessity to carry out the legacy of the world-famous mathematician forward and to promote and cultivate the magnificent tradition of Indian Mathematics.
Faculty members commemorated the legendary Indian mathematician and remembered him for his extraordinary contribution to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series & continued fractions which will remain memorable forever.
Those present in the commemoration included Irvinder Kour (HoD), Research officers, Deepak Sharma, Tapsaya Sharma, Nahida Anjum, Dr Sabeta Kohli, Arun Dutta, Dr Meenakshi Chandan, Ravinder Verma, Manju Chowdhary, Avinakshi Kargotra, Ruchi Mohan, Pratibha Jamwal, Akash Khajuria, Pallavi Joshi and Satpal Sharma.
Department of Mathematics, School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu celebrated National Mathematics Day and organized students conference on the theme ‘Indian Legends in Mathematics’ and poster presentation on the theme ‘Applications of Mathematics’ in which Prof. Bhopinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs of Cluster University of Jammu was the Chief Guest.
Dr. Sunil Gupta, Controller of examination, J&K BOPEE and Associate Professor in Mathematics was the resource persons of this Conference. The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. Narinder Sharma, Coordinator Mathematics, School of Sciences in which he apprised the audience about National Mathematics Day and achievements of Great Mathematician Ramanujan.
Prof. Bhopinder Singh encouraged the students to get inspiration from legendary mathematicians like Ramanujan. Dr. Sunil Gupta made the students aware about the importance of mathematics in allied sciences and advised them to read about biographies of Indian Mathematicians and work hard to become a mathematician like Ramanujan.
Prof. D.K Raina, Principal GDC Mendhar, in his address, encouraged the students to concentrate more on mathematics as it is the backbone of every science.
About 80 students from various colleges participated in poster competition. In student conference, students presented their talks on Indian legends in Mathematics and their contributions in Mathematics.
In poster completion, Nitika Syal from School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu, Swati Chopra from GCW Gandhi Nagar, Tanisha Rhometra from GCW Gandhinagr, Gourav Singh Chib from GGM Science College , Kritika Verma, School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu got first , second, third, fourth and fifth rank respectively. In Student Conference, Ajinka Sharma from GGM Science college, Vishav Raj singh, Hita Gupta and Shrenya, Akansha Gupta, Agranya from School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu got first, second, third, fourth and fifth rank respectively. Dr. Gourav Kumar and Dr. Pankaj Mansotra were the jury members of students conference, while Prof. Devia Narrania and Dr. Shahoor were jury members for poster completion. The
vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma.
The National Mathematics Day was celebrated by Department of Mathematics, Govt. PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar with an online orientation which was conducted on Zoom.
The orientation was begun by Dr. Anupama Gupta, HoD Mathematics who gave a detailed description and analysis about the life and work of Srinivasa Ramanujan and shared video on magic square of Ramanujan.
Principal, Dr. Sangita Nagari congratulated the student and staff of the Mathematics Department. It was followed by a student’s view, who gave a jest about National mathematics day.
At the end, a formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Anita Sharma who thanked the organising committee for putting forward such a flawless orientation. Shalini Rasgotra, Head Girl GCW Gandhi Nagar remain comparer for whole event.
National Mathematics Day and Dogri Maanta Divas were celebrated at Government Degree College (GDC) Marh under the patronage of Prof. Aekta Gupta, Principal GDC Marh.
Dogri Maanta Divas webinar was started with formal welcome by the Prof. Aekta Gupta, who highlighted the career opportunities in Dogri day to day life. The programme was organized by Satish Kumar, HOD Dogri GDC Marh.
The resource person of the webinar was Dr. Sandeep Dubey, Assistant Professor Department of Dogri University of Jammu, who gave information to the students about the career opportunities in Dogri.
In another programme of National Mathematics Day which was held at GDC Marh. Prof. Aekta Gupta was Chief Guest of programme and ZEO Marh was also as guest in the programme. Asif Javeed lecturer in Mathematics was resource person and spoke about the “Basics of mathematics with why one should do mathematics and how should mathematics be done”.
In the poster presentation Vishali student of Govt. Higher Secondary Marh won the first position, Ayush and Ashish student of Semester 1st (GDC Marh) second and third position respectively. In the debate students from MAM College Jammu and Students GDC Marhpresented the contribution of Srinivasa Ramanujan (The Great Mathematician) and the importance of Mathematics. The programme was coordinated by Ram Dayal (HOD Mathematics) GDC Marh. All staff members were present in the programme and all students were given certificates.
