Dy CM asks officers to make MCs vibrant, self-reliant

DODA: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh reviewed the functioning of Municipal Committees of District Doda and Kishtwar in a meeting held here today.
Minister of State for Transport, Revenue, RDD & PR Sunil Sharma, MLA Doda Shakti Parihar, MLA Bhaderwah Dalip Parihar, Deputy Commissioner Doda Bhupinder Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar G N Balwan DIG Police, Nissar Khan, Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu Soujnaya Sharma besides other officers were present in the meeting.
While reviewing the functioning of Municipal Committees of Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri and Kishtwar, the Deputy Chief Minister discussed various issues pertaining to establishment of solid waste management plant, construction of sanitary complexes, creation of parking lots, extension of town halls, creation of revenue generating assets, identification of land for bus stands, installation of Street lights, dust bins and identification of garbage collection points.
During the meeting, Dr Singh was apprised about the assets created by the Urban Local Bodies along with the status of men and machinery involved in sanitation works of the towns.
Deputy Commissioner Doda Bhupinder Kumar informed the chair that out of 3 municipal committees in the district, 2 committees are generating good revenues from various sources like the assets on rent, parking fee, town hall charges, toilet complexes and are self-sufficient. He further added that a number of works have been taken up by the municipalities under IDMST, PMAY schemes and are at different stages of completion.
During the meeting various demands were put forth by the legislators pertaining to the development of their areas including supply of machinery like JCB, trucks, septic tank cleaner, funds for construction of retaining walls, fencing, approach roads for solid waste management plants, identification of land for creation of new bus stands, installation of street lights, dust bins, rational delimitation of municipalities and others.
Dr Singh directed DC Doda to speed up the process of transferring the land identified for construction of new bus stand near Ganpat Bridge. He asked DC Kishtwar to submit DPR for construction of solid waste management plant in the district.
Dr Singh announced 150, 100, 50 & 150 street lights for Municipal committees of Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri and Kishtwar respectively besides financial assistance and other primary requirement of machineries, dust bins etc to all the committees.
Later the Deputy Chief Minister inspected the completed projects and various ongoing works of Municipal Committee Doda. He directed the officers to work with positive approach to make these bodies vibrant and self-reliant. He asked them to finish the projects in fixed timeline to avoid cost escalation. Dr Singh also directed the concerned to ensure the quality of works besides close monitoring of the projects.
