Dwindling moral values

113

Dear Editor,
The erosion of moral values in our society has become a very disturbing phenomenon. Now, first we need to understand that moral values are those set of standards by which we recognize between right or wrong. These values can come from self, family, community, religion, government or any other agency that influences the thoughts of an individual. These days we are witnessing that youths have lost their morality completely and the most contributing factor towards this declining morality is youth’sinclination towards mobile phones, drug addiction and misuse of internet. However, the agencies of education such as family, school and society play an important role in developing ethical and moral values among the youths of today. But unfortunately due to some social and economic factors many families are disoriented, disorganized and confused and eventually failed to play this vital role. Our institutes of learning are preparing efficient individuals but not good citizens. Society today is marked by violence, greed, theft, drug addiction and especially the crimes against women are increasing. Discipline today is lacking among the young children. They do not obey the elders and often disrespect them. In modern era, ethical and moral values are degenerating as people are becoming more and more self centered. So there is need of moral principles and values to be imparted in children to make them a better and responsible citizen. Human values and professional ethics must be given due recognition if we want to make a crime free society.
