Durga Nagar theft case solved; Rs 4.84 lakh, gold recovered, accused arrested

JAMMU: Jammu Police have solved a theft case reported from the Durga Nagar area last month, recovering Rs 4.84 lakh in cash along with gold ornaments from the possession of the accused. The accused, identified as Deepak Kumar, has been arrested by Police Station Domana after a swift and well-coordinated investigation.

Addressing a press conference at the Police Post Chinore, SP Rural Jammu, Brijesh Sharma, shared detailed information about the case and the investigation.
“Last month, a theft was reported from the Durga Nagar area. The complainant, Ashok Koul, approached Police Station Domana, reporting that around 20 tolas of gold and approximately Rs 6 lakh in cash had been stolen from his residence,” SP Sharma said and added, “Acting on his complaint, an FIR was registered and an investigation team was formed immediately.”
SP Sharma stated that the police team initiated the investigation by questioning several local suspects and simultaneously working on technical leads, including CCTV footage.
“We closely analyzed the CCTV footage and developed a crucial lead that pointed towards the Channi area. Acting on this, our team apprehended a suspect named Deepak Kumar,” he said. “During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the theft. On his disclosure, we recovered Rs 4.84 lakh in cash, one gold bracelet, and two gold rings from his residence.” According to SP Sharma, further interrogation revealed that the accused was also involved in several other theft cases.
“The accused has confessed to his involvement in two thefts under Channi Police Station jurisdiction, one under Bishnah, and another under Trikuta Nagar Police Station,” he added. “The respective police stations have been informed, and further investigation is underway.”
The SP also commended the efforts of the officers who worked diligently on the case.
“I want to acknowledge the excellent work done by our team, especially the Incharge Police Post Chinore, Arjun, who has earlier solved chain-snatching cases in record time, and SDPO Domana, Mudassir, under whose supervision this case was cracked,” he said.
SP Sharma appealed to citizens to adopt preventive measures against such incidents.
“We urge the public to install CCTV cameras in and around their homes and to remain vigilant about their surroundings. Such precautions greatly assist in timely detection and prevention of crime,” he advised.
The complainant, Ashok Koul, also expressed gratitude to Jammu Police for their timely action. He said that the police kept constant communication with him and worked tirelessly to track down the accused. The accused has been remanded to police custody, and further investigation is in progress to uncover his involvement in other similar cases.
