DSEJ hosts panel discussion, other activities to observe ‘Accession Day’

JAMMU: To celebrate Accession Day and to make the young generation aware about the glorious history of Jammu & Kashmir, the Directorate of School Education Jammu(DSEJ) through its Cultural and Educational cell, organised a Panel Discussion on the topic; ‘J&K-The Crown of India in which Director School Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta was the chief guest.’
The eminent panelists, who deliberated on the topic were Col. Dr. Virendra.K. Sahi, VrC., Former Dy. Brigade Commander, Prof. V. S. Manhas, Former Head, Department of Geography, University of Jammu and Dr. Kashab Sharma, Assistant Professor(History) Cluster University of Jammu.
Over 1700 participants attended this webinar through Facebook Live and online which included students, teachers, parents, HOIs and many from other states of India.
In her Keynote address, the Director School Education, Jammu, highlighted the importance of accession day and laid emphasis on creating awareness among the children about the Glorious history of J&K. She said that it is the dire need of the hour to develop the spirit of patriotism among the children and ‘such programs will definitely help us to achieve this.’
The panelists threw light upon the need of celebration of this day, Instrument of Accession, how this accession is different from Junagarh accession, status of POK, geographical location of J&K, Role of Mountbatten and V.K. Menon, Delay in accession, etc. They informed the participants that on 26th October, 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh signed off the Instrument of Accession, in which Jammu & Kashmir joined the Dominion of India. They also discussed why 22nd October is marked a Black Day to remember Pakistan’s invasion of Kashmir in 1947.
They kept the participants spellbound throughout the session by unveiling the unknown facts. Earlier, welcome address was presented by Surjit Singh, Head Cultural and Educational Cell, DSEJ. He extended his warm welcome to all the panelists as well as participants and shared his greetings with them.
Alka Sharma, Team Member Cultural and Educational cell moderated the proceedings of the panel discussion.
It is pertinent to mention here that under DSEJ Home Assignments (Project DSEJ Home Classes), DSEJ. Weekly Program included celebration of Accession Day of J&K for different age groups from pre-primary to class 12th. As per this program, all learners/Educators at their respective homes will send a video singing National Song and raising National Flag of India with the family members; 2-3minute video/audio message about history of J&K Accession in 1947 and Drawing/Poster Competition on the theme: Unity in Diversity, National Integration and Selfie with National Flag.
