JAMMU: Dr. R R Khajuria , a leading social activist of J&K left for his heavenly abode after a brief illness on Monday and was cremated same day evening in Channi Himmat cremation ground. He was 90 yrs old. Dr Khajuria had devoted self to voluntary work in social sector even when he was in active government service and after he retired from the post of Managing Director Milk Federation Jammu in Nov 1991 he had set social work as his only mission as a full timer . He remained associated with social work on ground till around 86 yrs of age
Dr Khajuria has been the founder member and the first President / Chairman of a number of social voluntary organisation in J&K like Jammu and Kashmir Samaj Kalyan Kendra Jammu (started in 1980) , a premier organisation to work for Hearing Handicap children including their education / rehabilitation, woman welfare , rural development , Establishment of Shramik Vidaypeeth in Jammu in mid 1980s and only Secondary School for hearing handicap children in J&K ; founder and president J&K Consumer Welfare Association Jammu ; founder and first president of J&K Confederation of Voluntary Social and Charitable Organisations ; founder President of International Human Rights Protection Council Jammu ; founder and President of SWERA that is also running a High School for economically weaker children in Channi Himmat Jammu ; founder and President of Vichar Karanti Manch International .
Dr Khajuria has also earned honours during his service in JK Government and for his extraordinary services in development in dairy / animal husbandry sector he was awarded by government of India in a function presided over by the honourable President of India Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma ji .
Dr Khajuria has been establishing social organisations and handing over the managements to his Co workers after a couple of years , which was recognised as his particular style by his admirers.
Dr Khajuria is survived by his wife Champa Khajuria , Two sons Dr Bhupesh Khajuria & Naresh Khajuria and a daughter Dr Ruchi Goswami. His cremation was attended by a number of his admirers, associates , friends and those who had been selflessly helped by him.
A wreath was laid on his mortal remains on behalf of Samaj Kayan Kendra by former President, Daya Sagar, Current President K B Jandial, General Secretary J K Vaid, Life Member and former DGP Dr. Ashok Bhan, Treasurer M D Sharma, member Hemant Sharma, former Divisional Commissioner & B D Sharma former Commissioner Secretary.
