JAMMU: President, Jammu and Kashmir PoJK DPs Front 1947, 1965, 1971, Rachhpal Sinqh Chib asked the Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947 (PoJK) and of 1965, 1971 (Urban and Rural) of Chhamb to prepare their documents for claiming compensation against one time Financiai Settlement Package sanctioned by government.
Addressing a refugees rally here today, Chib said that the Ministry of Home Affairs with the recommendation of State Cabinet Sub-committee headed by Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh, the State Cabinet of Jammu and Kashmir and Department Related Permanent Committee Home Affairs and Joint Parliamentary Committee in 2015 have recommended Rs. 30 lakh for each DPs family uprooted in the years 1947, 1965, 1971, irrespective of the land/plot/house/monetary relief already received by the DPs.
“The DPs of 1947, 1965, 1971 uprooted 68 years ago from their previous abodes have been granted a respectable compensation against their final settlement package sanctioned by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
However, he said, some DP leaders who received financial relief through dubious means are insisting to exempt them and all those who received monetary benefits for themselves, their sons, daughters and grandsons through corruption and back door practices during previous corrupt governments are demanding that they should be exempted from the mandatory documents (voter lists prior to 1965/1971).
The front will launch protests if the government or designate authorities exempt any category of DPs of the documents to be submitted along with their application forms for availing financial Final Settlement of Rs. 30 lakh, he warned. However, he asserted, the package is incomplete because it does not include political, social and educational aspects of the comprehensive package demanded by front.
