VIJAYPUR: Displaced Persons (DPs) POJK and Chhamb (1947 1965 and 1971) on Tuesday held a protest against the government for not releasing package amount for them even as two year have passed.
Led by former Minister and JKPCC General Secretary, Manjit Singh the protesters organised a protest outside the SDM Vijaypur Office and demanded that the package amount was not released by the government.
They alleged the DP families are being forced to face harassment at the hands of revenue officials who are allegedly demanding bribe through their agents to complete the paper formalities.
“Formalities sought by the Revenue Department have become a source of exploitation of the DPs and they are being told to bring one documents or other. The government should ease the process of granting package to the DPs instead the process is made more complicated,” said Manjit Singh, while speaking before the protesters.
He said that the agents of revenue officials like Girdawar and Patwari demand Rs 25, 000 to 30, 000 for every file to complete and people are forced to give them bribe. “This practice must stop otherwise, we will not tolerate. We will come on the roads to end the harassment,” he threatened.
Manjit Singh also handed over three copies of a memorandum to Prime Minister Narinder Modi, Home Minister of India and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir projecting demands of the DPs.
“Government had announced package for DPs but money has not been distributed to DP’s even as two years have passed,” he alleged further.
He said that the settelment records of DPs from 1965 and 1971 are in Delhi and records of DPs of 1947 are with the Revenue Department or with the PRO office.
He said that the children of DPs should be given reservation like KPs in educational institutions, and a board for the DPs should also be constituted.
