Double title for Vipul in district badminton

JAMMU: Vipul Saini made it a double title win retaining the men’s singles title and later played a key role in doubles title win pairing with senior, Rahul Sharma in the 29th Jammu District Badminton Championship, organised by Jammu City and District Badminton Association at Police Badminton Hall, here on Thursday.
In the men’s singles final, Vipul outplayed young Divum Gupta in an interesting contest 2-1 (19-21, 21-15, 21-13). Divum attracted the attention of selected gathering taking away the opening set. But his senior and defending state champion, Vipul took away the following sets to make it a 2-1 win.
Later, Vipul along with his senior, Rahul Sharma outplayed the opponents in Aman and Vasu in straight sets 21-18, 21-14 to make it a double title win.
To encourage budding shuttlers, consolation prizes were given away to Arman Arora, Jiya, Sidharth, Rajveer, Hari Malhotra, Komal, Mohit, Yashdeep, Ayushi, Riya and Nakul.
In the men’s finals and prize distribution function, Managing Director, J and K Police Housing Development Corporation, ADGP, Dilbag Singh was Chief Guest, who distributed medals. He encouraged those who lost in the crucial matches and appreciated the performances of those emerged winners.
Prominent among those present were General Secretary of J and K Badminton Association, Dr O.D Sharma and veteran shuttler, D.D Sharma, Balbir Singh Jamwal, Indu Bushan, Sunil, Anil Gorkha, Sat Pal Sharma and Vikram Jamwal.
Veteran badminton player, Som Raj Gupta was Organising Secretary of the Tournament.
