JAMMU: Dogri research scholars under the banner of Student Scholar Council on Wednesday held a protest against the ruling PDP-BJP Government for making a direct assault on Dogra identity and demanded immediate creation of Dogri subject posts of Assistant Professors in all 47 degree colleges of Jammu region.
The protestors including female scholars, led by Council’s chairman Parduman Singh, assembled outside Jammu University gate and disrupted the traffic by blocking the road for half an hour.
They burnt the effigy of the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and Minister for Education Altaf Bukhari for making a direct attack on Dogra identity and culture by imposing Kashmiri language in Jammu colleges.
The scholars also raised slogans against the Deputy Chief Minister, BJP Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma and Education Minister.
“We would like to the BJP leadership to explain their role behind this illogical move. Their dubious role stands exposed. On the one side, they claim to be champion of Jammu cause and on the other they are resorting to grave injustice with Jammu region. The people of Jammu will not spare the BJP leadership and the incumbent ministers from this region for their complete surrender to the Kashmir,” Parduman Singh said, adding that the government has made an attempt to assault the Dogra identity which will not be tolerated at any cost.
He said the government, especially BJP, owes an explanation as on what parameters were adopted for creating such a big number of posts of Assistant Professors in Kashmiri language in Jammu colleges.
Another scholar, Kailash Mohan, also came down heavily on the state government for its ill-advised move which was taken under a well-planned conspiracy against Dogri-speaking region.
“The BJP leadership must explain as to how the higher education department took this arbitrary decision unilaterally. The government should not test our patience and the protests, which are confined to Jammu city till now, will spread to other areas if this arbitrary order was not revoked immediately,” he warned. The protestors demanded immediate revocation of “arbitrary order” under which 49 vacancies of Assistant Professors were converted for Kashmiri Language and Literature.
Ritu Raj, Shiv Kumar, Menisha, Pritima Sangra, Meetu Kumari, Sunil Mehra, Anu Sharma, Shallu, Sonika Jasrotia, Kamlesh, Anil Verma, Asha, Sheetal, Sukhdev, Pawan, Ronika, Mohinder and Rimjim were also present.
