Dogra Law College organises lecture on custodian violence

JAMMU: Dogra Law College organised an extension lecture on custodial violence in which Dr. S.P Vaid, Additional DGP was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Prof. K.L Bhatia, Director, Dogra Law College acquainted the audience with the meaning of custodial violence by highlighting Shatrugan’s Case, Bhagalpur Case to quote as an example of custodial violence.
Dr. S.P Vaid, in his address, enlightened the students with his valuable views on custodial violence. To quote an example of custodial violence he explained the Kasab’s Case, Bhagalpur Case and many other. He emphasised that the main reason of custodial violence is due to lack of forensic science technique to Police Department in India.
“The chief reason of custodial violence is the static old law The Indian Police Act, 1861 which follows the legacy of British approach. After independence, this Act needs to be deleted from the statutory books and bringing about the model Police Act which shall meet the needs of the new world order in India,” he added.
The extension lecture concluded with the questioning cum interactive session.
Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust, Th. Gulchain Singh Charak felt extravagant on the success of the programme and congratulated the Dogra Law College fraternity for the same.
Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust, Samar Dev Singh Charak and Director Adm and CD, S.C Khajuria were also present among the dignitaries.
The programme was coordinated by Samiksha Razdan, Nidha Slathia, Nawdeep Singh Sen, Pavita Badyal, Laxmi, Uzma, Sunil Sharma, Krishan and vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Komila Aggarwal, Principal Dogra Law College.
