JAMMU: The activists of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena staged protest against Article 35A as it has enslaved the women of the State as well as financial condition.
Led by President Dogra Front, Ashok Gupta, the activists assembled at New Plot area and raised slogans against the Chief Minister.
While addressing the protesters, Gupta said “Article 35A of the Indian Constitution empowers the Jammu and Kashmir State’s Legislature to define ‘permanent residents’ of the State and provides special rights and privileges to those permanent residents. The legislation defines or allows to whom the permission has to be given to live in the State.”
Gupta demanded immediate revocation of Article 35A. “Article 35A is unconstitutional and illegal. It has been extended to the State by the virtue of Presidential Order and has not been passed by the Parliament, which is a necessary formality,” he said.
“The Article should be removed and the woman should be provided with equal rights so that we can feel sense of balance with the rest of the country,” he stated.
Among those who joined the protest include Lal Singh, Bantu, Gurdass, Krishan, Sukhdev, Kesaro, Nikku, Ram Paul, Pradhanu and Abhishek.
