Jammu:-A doctor at the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has been suspended for alleged negligence which led to the death of a patient.
“The principal of the Government medical college Jammu has suspended Medicine Registrar Dr Sushil Pandita for negligence which led to the death of a patient,” an official said.
However, the resident doctors association GMC Jammu and associated hospitals have alleged that the suspension was at the behest of ‘higher ups’ to shield the real culprits.
“The death was due to drip reaction and there have been several such instances in the past two years. The doctors had already brought this to the notice of the authorities in the hospital that there was some problem with the drips procured,” said Dr Neeraj Sharma president of the Resident Doctors Association GMC Jammu and Associated Hospitals.
He said Dr Sushil Pandita, who just did his duty, was made a scapegoat to shield the real culprits.
“We are surprised how a doctor was suspended without even conducting an enquiry into the episode. We urge the Health Minister of the state and the state government to conduct an impartial enquiry into the entire episode,” he said.
