Kangra based supplier, 2 Jammu youth arrested
JAMMU: Mysterious death of a 22-year-old Divya Manhas recently has led Jammu Police to bust a drugs racket running in the Jammu city which was engaged in selling Heroin injections to youth for Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 per dose.
A Himachal Pradesh based drugs supplier along with two youngsters of Talab Tillo here have been arrested while the investigations into the case are under process, said SSP Uttam Chand while addressing media persons at Channi Himmat Police Station on Saturday.
Divya Manhas-was taken to GMC Hospital on 10th October after taken ill during midnight, where she expired. Police suspected over dose of drugs as reason behind her sudden death and accordingly inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC were initiated.
Police has grilled her four friends also-who were spotted with her till late night.
During investigations, it emerged that Divya, daughter of Krishan Lal, resident of 382, Marble Market had taken two shots of Heroin injections which were sold by drug peddlers—–Vikramjeet Singh alias Vikku, son of Uttam Singh, resident of Talab Tillo and -Rubal Sharma, son of Chipu, House Number, 637, Street Number 6, Talab Tillo.
According to investigators, Divya was roaming in the City with her friends till late night and when she returned home, she was taken ill. After her condition deteriorated around 2:00 AM, she was taken to GMC for treatment, where, she failed to respond to the treatment and breathed her last The doctors attending the girl found some injection marks on her arm which suggest that she might have taken drugs and an overdose can be a reason for her death. Vikramjeet (22) and Rubal (23), during their interrogation revealed the name of a Kangra based drug supplier- Yashjeet alias Kali alias Chacha, son of Chiman, resident of Damtal, Kangra. After his arrest, Yashjeet admitted that he was supplying heroin to Vikramjeet and Rubal for sale to custormers. Their clients generally used to be between 15 and 25 years in range. One gram heroin used to be sold for Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 and five doses prepared for intravenous injections, in small syringes.
The racket was unearthed by a police team led by SHO Channi Himmat Inspector Ajaz Ahmed and SDPO East Dy SP Rafiq Manhas under the supervision of SP South Rahul Malik and Jammu SSP Uttam Chand.
FIR 88/14 under section 302 CrPC, NDPS act has been registered against the trio. Divya’s friends, who according to police are also drug addicts, have been made witnesses in the case.
When asked about the accomplices who dropped the girl home at around 2:0AM in the morning, the SSP said that the accomplices of the girl too were the consumers of the drugs and “hence they too are being treated as victims.
The SSP said that according to call details of the deceased, around 32 individuals from “well-to-do families” were constantly in touch with her and the police has questioned them all. The SSP said that police was still investigating the case and further disclosures are accepted in the days to come.
Replying to a question that the police was trying to shield the “high-profile” people involved in the narcotic trade in Jammu, the Deputy Inspector General of Police Jammu Kathua Range, Shakeel Beig, who arrived at the Channi Himmat Police Station after the press briefing, said “Yes, there are some high-profile individuals and the children from some well-to-do families, but they all are consumers of drugs. So we treat them as victims.”
