District Hospital Leh tops in Kayakalp initiative

JAMMU: District Hospital (DH) Leh topped the assessment conducted under Kayakalp programme for demonstrating high level of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control. District Hospital Udhampur followed DH Leh by bagging a commendation award.
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Prime Minister on 2nd October 2014, focused on promoting cleanliness in public places and to complement this effort, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India launched a National Initiative i.e. Kayakalp to give awards to those public health facilities that worked for cleanliness and hygiene.
In this regard, two divisional level workshops, one each at Jammu and Srinagar were conducted in the month of October 2015 for sensitisation and orientation of Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents and other stake holders regarding the Kayakalp guidelines.
The workshop for the external assessors was conducted in collaboration with National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), New Delhi in the month of January 2016 where the teams of both Jammu and Kashmir Divisions were trained for carrying out external assessment as per the protocols and guidelines of Kayakalp programme.
Consequently, Internal Assessment Committees were constituted in each District Hospital (DH) by the concerned Chief Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents. The internal assessment of all the District Hospitals was conducted and nine DHs namely Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu, DH Udhampur, DH Doda, DH Kathua, DH Poonch, DH (JLNM) Srinagar, DH Baramulla, DH Bandipora and DH Leh got more than 70 per cent score and were selected for Peer Assessment.
On Peer Assessment, six DHs namely Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu, DH Udhampur, DH Kathua, JLNM Hospital Srinagar, DH Baramulla, and DH Leh got more than 70 per cent score and were qualified for the External Assessment.
The process of External Assessment was completed on 29th February 2016. Since the minimum score in the External Assessment for consideration of award is 70 per cent, only two facilities fulfilled the criteria for grant of award. District Hospital Leh got first position by receiving Rs 50 lakh to the facility out of which 25 per cent will be the cash incentive for the team of District Hospital Leh, and DH Udhampur bagged Commendation Award along with Rs. 3 lakh to the facility out of which 25 per cent will be the cash incentive to the team of District Hospital, Udhampur.
