Displaced Kashmiri Sikhs demand reservation of four constituencies

JAMMU: President, Displaced Kashmiri Sikhs, Harmohinder Singh demanded reservation of four Assembly constituencies for Sikh community in J and K State two each in Jammu and Kashmir province.
“J and K State has seven reserved constituencies viz. Hiranagar, Samba, Raipur-Damana, Chhamb, Chenani, Ramban and R S Pura for the weaker section of our society viz a viz their socio-politico-economic upliftment,” he told reporters and sought reservation of four constituencies for Sikhs in both Kashmir and Jammu provinces in the Sikh dominated areas Barramulla and Tral, R.S Pura and Gandhi Nagar respectively.
There are more than three lakh Sikhs in J and K State in fact they are scattered and are in minority in each 87 Assembly constituencies of the State but they remain apolitical because they cannot choose the representative from their own community, he said.
He appealed to the government to consider the demand of Sikh community by promulgation of an Ordinance in this regard.
Singh exhorted the all Sikh community members to rise to the occasion unitedly irrespective of their party affiliations or regional interests and get constitutional guarantee for reservation of four Assembly constituencies meted out.
General Secretary, Harpal Singh Bali demanded that relief organisation should look into the bifurcation of ration cards, allotment of quarters, issue of backward certificate and PRCs without further delay.
