New Delhi:- The Indonesian flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia, is all set to provide direct air connectivity to India with the launch of a flight service from country’s capital Jakarta to Mumbai from this evening.

The non-stop maiden flight from the Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta, is expected to touch down at Mumbai’s Chhtrapati Shivaji International Airport at 2030 hours, according to a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) official.

Garuda Indonesia, which is a part of the global airlines grouping Sky Team, has deployed a 156-seater Boeing 737-800s in a two-class configuration with 12 seats in business and 144 in economy class.

The launch of the direct air services between the two countries comes amid the state visit of the Indonesian President Joko Widodo to India.

Earlier in the day, India and Indonesia, in a joint statement, welcomed the launch of direct services to Mumbai by the South-east Asian carrier.

“Noting the importance of connectivity for enhancement of trade, tourism and people-to-people contacts, the Leaders (Indian Prime Minister Naredndra Modi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo) welcomed the establishment of flights by Garuda Indonesia between Jakarta and Mumbai starting from December 2016,” the joint statement said.

“They also encouraged direct flights from India to Indonesia by the airlines of India,” it said.
