The Sikhs, a minority community in Pakistan, are victims of recent communal attacks. Numbering a minuscule in strength the community, consisting mostly of traders are a threatened segment. They are planning to stage a country-wide agitation to highlight the increasing numbers of killing and assault cases on the Sikh community members. Recently a Sikh trader was killed and the worst affected in the communal divide is the Hindu community. The trader’s killing is sixth or seventh targeted killing of a member of the community. The local Sikhs complain that no arrest has been made in any of the cases. Justice demand that assailants be identified and booked. But as usual Pakistan Government has not initiated any action in this regard. And now the two minority communities-Hindus and Sikhs–have decided to launch a country wide joint agitation. Coming of these two communities together is a serious development. All that these communities are seeking is justice. By showing indifference or maintaining silence Pakistan Government is failing in its fundamental duty of providing justice. Pakistan is home to important Hindu and Sikh shrines and every year lakhs of devotees of these communities visit Pakistan and vice versa they come to India also. Joining the issue is Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi describing the issue of “extreme urgency and concerning everyone” in India in general and the members of the Sikh community in particular. In a letter written to the Prime Minister he indicated that several innocent Sikhs have been killed by unknown assailants in different parts of Pakistan in recent weeks. The Chief Minister claimed that there was an atmosphere of panic among the minority community families in Pakistan following the recent killings in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Security of the community members is the prime issue who have been there in the history of Pakistan.
