JAMMU: Under new Criminal laws Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the citizens have been provided with the facility of lodging their complaints in any of the electronic forms like, SMS, email, WhatsApp, Citizen Service Centers, Web Portal/ Internet (Eforms), in addition to verbal, telephonic or written complaints.
As on date 52 complaints have been received through SMS and Email in different police stations of UT. In addition to the above 64 complaints have been received on Citizen Service Centers and 10 complaints from Web Portal/ Internet (Eforms) and more than 70 such complaints have been converted into FIRs. As per the section 173 BNSS, any complaint (electronic) received by police shall be entered in the records however, the complainant has to sign that complaint (electronic) within three days.

With regard to ZERO FIR, so far more than 100 such FIRs have been registered indifferent Police Stations of UT of J&K. Out of these 83 FIRs were transferred to different police stations outside J&K.
As the general public is well aware about the cyber crime trends, checks and balances have been introduced at various levels, so that the facility of eFIR etc. provision cannot be misused by any miscreant.
