DIG finalises security arrangements for polls

UDHAMPUR: DIG Udhampur Reasi Range Garib Dass, conducted a detailed security review and election preparedness meeting at Range Police Headquarters Udhampur for ensuring smooth, free fair and incident free Assembly elections being held in second Phase in Reasi and Udhampur Districts on 2nd December 2014.
Arrangements for six Assembly constituencies falling in these districts were worked out and discussed threadbare. All hypersensitive and sensitive polling stations will be covered with additional deployments apart from dominating and sensitising these areas well in advance. The territorial officers were directed to utilise Central Armed Police Forces allotted for the pre poll phase for this job by designing area domination exercises, night patrols, police Nakas and effective checking points and other measures to generate a greater sense of security in the area especially hilly and sensitive belt of this range.
The provision for the security of the contesting candidates and other officials related with the process of elections was also finalised and discussed. Also making of fool proof security arrangements and police bandobust for the political rallies being addressed by senior functionaries of various parties was also discussed. Identification and domination of places for conduct of such political rallies well in advance was also highlighted. The provision for Quick Reaction Teams and effective supervision by the Gazetted Officers was also stressed upon to meet any contingency or exigency in the area.
A separate security plan for the distribution and collection centers was also finalised apart from provisions of issuing a detailed security deployment plan for the day of elections/votings in these districts as per the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India and directions issued Police Headquarters/Zonal Police Headquarter in this regard. The other administrative arrangements which are required to be made regarding accommodation for security forces, transport, communications and logistics were also discussed in details.
All territorial police officers were directed to ensure preventive policing measures and strict enforcement of Model Code of Conduct and other provisions of law in this regard to ensure free, fair, smooth and peaceful conduct of elections in Udhampur-Reasi Range.
