R S PURA: Diamond Cricket Club Simbal Camp lifted the Police Cricket Tournament 2016 trophy defeating Press Cricket Club R S Pura in the final played at Bana Singh Stadium, here on Sunday.
The tournament was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police R S Pura under Civic Action Programme.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Press Cricket Club R S Pura set a target of 97 runs in 20 overs. Raman was the top scorer with 31 runs. For Diamond Cricket Club, Manni was the pick of the bowlers, who grabbed four wickets.
Diamond Cricket Club with the Gurvinder (captain) 21 runs inning chased the target comfortably in 16 over for the loss of two wickets, thus won the match by eight wickets.
In the closing ceremony, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) R S Pura and Political Advisor to State BJP President, Dr. Gagan Bhagat, SSP Jammu, Dr. Sunil Gupta, SP (Hq) Ramesh Kotwal, SHO R.S Pura Harish Dayama distributed prizes among the winner and runner up teams and also to individuals.
While interacting with the players, MLA lauded the Jammu and Kashmir Police for organising this event which would help to highlight the talent of youth from remote villages.
Dr. Gagan said as medico he knew the ill effects of the drugs in the mind and the body of the person, and advised the young generation to shun the path of evil and participate in sport and extra-curricular activities.
SSP Jammu said that JKP will organise more such events for the slum and under privileged cricketers in near future in order to provide platforms for them so that they can also show their talent.
Prominent persons present on the occasion include SDPO R S Pura, DySP Harjeet Singh, SHO Miran Sahib, Hilal Azhar, SHO R S Pura, Harish Rawat, SP Border, R.S Kotwal, BJP R S Pura leaders Natharam, Inder Sudan, Omparkash Advani, Rajesh Choudhary and Gurdeep Saini.
