JAMMU: A candidate of M.A Sociology 2nd Semester namely Shabnam Akhtar who according to her Roll No. slip had to appear in the Examination Centre Government Women College Gandhi Nagar Hall (B), on 7th May 2016 was not allowed to sit in the examination due to omission of her name in the list of candidates available with the Centre Superintendent.
She informed that despite having roll no. slip bearing the number 1279soc/015 listed for Examination Centre Government Women College Gandhi Nagar Hall (B) she was not entertained by the Superintendent of the aforesaid centre on the pretext that the list available with them does not possess her name. She further informed that despite approaching concerned officials of DDE University of Jammu on the aforesaid date and the Controller Examination of Jammu University nothing was done to rectify the error and alleviate her problem. “I was forced to leave the examination centre and was deprived of appearing in the examination”, she rued and added that what is more shocking is that concerned officials at University of Jammu have now admitted their mistake and informed that her name was erroneously excluded from the list provided to the aforesaid Centre Superintendent.
Narrating her ordeal and indifference shown by university authorities in dealing her case, she has urged Jammu University to compensate her by giving marks proportionate to her first Semester result of the same subject.
However, a senior college professor pleading anonymity has said that there is a provision in university statutes to entertain such students by allowing them to appear in examination at the same centre under stray category and sending their answer sheets to university separately along with detailed report tagged as Stray Case.
