KULGAM: Emphasising on strict compliance of Model Code of Conduct (MCC), District Election Officer Kulgam Nisar Hussain Wani has stressed on creating congenial atmosphere for conduct of free, fair and transparent polls in the district.
Chairing a meeting of political parties here this morning, the DEO highlighted the need for maintaining peace and security during conduct of political events, rallies and road shows. He said nobody will be allowed to commit offences under the election laws, even as he cautioned against making use of any individual’s land/building, etc against the will of the property owner.
He asked political parties to ensure that their supporters don’t obstruct or break-up meetings and processions organised by rival parties, adding that political processions should not be taken out by one party along places at which other parties are scheduled to hold such political meetings.
The DEO asked that mosques, churches or other places of worship should not be used as forum for election propaganda.
The political parties were given sets of MCC, lists of polling stations and guidelines regarding expenditure monitoring and filing of nomination papers. They were explained in detail regarding the maintenance of accounts for which every candidate has to open a separate account number for use of election related expenditure.
Among others, Returning Officers of Noorabad, Kulgam, H.S Bugh and Devsar attended the meeting.
