DEO reviews preparedness for Panchayat Elections

POONCH:  District Election Officer Tariq Ahamad Zargar on Thursday convened a meeting to discuss the future strategy and status of preparedness for smooth conduct of forthcoming Panchayat elections.

In the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on many aspects ranging from security arrangements, verification of electoral rolls, marking of supplements and all necessary arrangements at polling stations as specified by Election Commission including transportation plan, setting up of strong room and collection center, collection and proper mobilisation of electoral materials besides overall supervision of the election arrangements.

BDOs were directed to submit period reports regarding all the arrangements and facilities at polling stations.

The meeting was informed that in the district, there are 11 Rural Blocks comprising 2,61,521 eligible voters having 1856 Panch constituencies and 228 Sarpanch constituencies.

DEO directed the concerned officers to gear up their men and machinery and keep them in a state of preparedness to ensure the smooth conduct of Panchayat election.

The meeting was attended by SSP Poonch Rajiv Panday, ADDC Abdul Hamied, ADC Dr Bashrat Hussain, SDM Mendhar, SDM Surankote and Deputy Election officer, ACD Poonch, Tehsildars, BDOs and DIOs.
