DEO Jammu convenes meeting of party representatives

JAMMU: With the announcement of Election by the Election Commission of India in the J and K State for holding Legislative Assembly Elections–2014, the Election Machinery in the District gets activated.
The Deputy Commissioner Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu, who is also the District Election Officer convened a meeting with all political parties active in the District, alongwith Kalyan Singh Parihar Additional Deputy Commissioner (LO) Jammu and other officers.
During the course of meeting the DEO briefed all the representatives of political parties about the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and stressed that guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India must be followed by each political party.
He informed all representatives that a contesting candidate can spend expenditure up to Rs. 28 lakh as fixed by the Election Commission and every contesting candidate has to open a separate account for incurring expenditure during the course of campaigning and must inform this account number to their respective Returning Officer while filing the nomination. Besides this he also informed that Flying Squad Teams (three teams for each Assembly Segment), Video Surveillance Teams (three teams for each Assembly Segment), Video Viewing Teams (three teams for each Assembly Segment) and Accounting Teams have been deployed in all Assembly Segments of District Jammu. Moreover, a Compliant Monitoring Cell headed by Kalyan Singh Parihar Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu and Media Certification and Monitoring Team headed by DEO Jammu have also been constituted at the level of District.
The District Election Officer has also convened the meeting with Returning Officer/Assistant Returning Officers of all Assembly Segments and asked them to get prepared for smooth conduct of Elections. During the course of meeting, he asked all those officers who are Returning officers of Assembly Segments whose Polling Stations are falling within the radius of 5 KM from International Border/ALC to prepare a contingency plan so that the border residents could be shifted to safer places to cast votes in event of cross border firing. He also asked all ROs to establish their offices with all office machinery and complaint cell in their respective Assembly Segments immediately. He also asked to immediately conduct the inspections of polling stations of their respective Assembly Segments and ensure that the Basic Minimum facilities as per the guide lines of the Election Commission of India are available in these polling stations.
