Dengue’s first victim in Jammu is BJP MLC’s son

Jammu: The son of a senior BJP leader and the sitting Member Legislative Council (MLC) Ramesh Arora died due to dengue on Monday, becoming the first victim of the vector-borne disease in Jammu region this year.
Sadhaya Arora (26), who was under treatment at a private hospital in Punjab, died this afternoon. He was shifted to the Punjab few days ago after being diagnosed with dengue, an official statement issued here read.
However, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Gurjeet Singh feigned ignorance about the first case of death reported in the region due to the vector-borne disease.
“I have no knowledge about him of dying of dengue, but so far we don’t have a single patient admitted in any hospital in Jammu who is suffering from dengue. 74 persons have been tested positive with dengue in the region and they are recovering at their respective homes,” Singh said.
Singh said that the situation in Jammu region was under control and the health department was fully prepared to deal with any eventuality.
The Director of the private hospital where Sadhaya was under treatment did not respond to repeated calls.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh in a statement condoled the demise of Sadhaya.
Praying for the departed soul; the Deputy Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved family, it said.
A condolence meeting of Legislative Council was also held under the chairmanship of Haji Anayat Ali to condole the demise of MLC Ramesh Arora’s son.
Legislators, G.N Monga, Dr. Shenaz Ganai, Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Kaiser Jamsheed Lone, Saif-ullah Bhat and Javaid Ahmad Mirchal, besides Secretary LC Abdul Majeed Bhat, and other senior officers and officials of the Council Secretariat attended the condolence meeting.
During the meeting a two-minute silence was observed to pray for the eternal peace of the deceased. On the occasion, Haji Anayat Ali expressed his grief and sorrow on the demise of the deceased and conveyed his sympathies with the bereaved family.
Legislator Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri who is presently in Ladakh on DRSC Committee tour also condoled the death of Sadhaya and expressed his heartfelt sympathy with the family of the bereaved.
