Delhi Waqf Board resumes pensions for widowsNew Delhi: Delhi Waqf Board has resumed widow pensions, which were not being paid for the last eight years, and has also decided to raise it to Rs 1500 from next month to help the beneficiaries.

The new chairman of the Board Amantullah said pensions for the widows which was Rs 500 per month were not being paid for the last 8 years.

“We have resumed payment of widow pensions and had raised the amount from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 per month,” he said.

Amantullah said the pension for widows will be raised to Rs 1500 from June.

“At least Rs 50 per day will ensure that the beneficiary widows can manage their daily needs like food,” he said.

The Waqf Board chairman said that presently 1000 widows are being paid the pensions and more applications received by the Board are also being considered.

He said that Board is presently focusing on increasing its revenue so that such welfare and development measures for the community could be run smoothly.

The monthly income of Delhi Waqf Board, which was around Rs 7-8 lakh, has now gone up to about Rs 1.25 crore per month.

The daily rent collections have also increased to Rs 8-10 lakh, he said.
